New volleyball scoring formulas
Vladimir G1ATKIN, senior coach of the USSR team. The tournament for the FIVB Cup in Seoul was held with a significant innovation: if after the usual four games it came to fifth, then a point was counted for each winning action, regardless of which team was serving. Our team had the chance to play the fifth game of only one race ”- in the final match against the national team of Peru. In less than eight minutes, our girls won. The result is pleasant. But I did not like the novelty itself. Why?
The fifth, decisive game, in the normal course of business, is also tense. And here the psychological load on the players was, I would say, artificially increased several times.Volleyball players were terribly afraid to make the slightest mistake, because it is impossible to fix it. The game was not even like volleyball, it was something else …
It is likely that the new formula for scoring coaches will be able to extract some benefit: to teach volleyball players the utmost New volleyball scoring formulas. Unless, of course, they did not “burn out” before …
Olga Krivosheeva, international master of sports. Most of all, I am glad that we had to play only one game according to the new system, with fixing a point for any mistake, either on our pitch or on someone else’s. I’m sure that I wouldn’t stand five such games. And my friends on the site were as if electrified: it seemed, touch with a finger – sparks would sprinkle. Everyone concentrated to the limit. Until the last opportunity, everyone fought for every ball. raised almost “dead” balls in defense. It would be always so to defend in the depths of the site! But no, I wouldn’t want to play in such conditions all the time – it’s too hard …
Marina Kiryakova, master of sports of international class. It seemed to me that the friends who were on the field more easily endured the New volleyball New volleyball scoring formulasformulasexcitement caused by the innovation, as they were passionate about the New volleyball scoring formulas. And here I was, on the bench, looking at the girls, I almost died of worries: after all, the score was approaching with finality to the final, fifteenth point.
It’s good that, near the end of the game, the Peruvians made a mistake on the pitch twice – and our team came forward. It became very clear that the advantage in such a game is gained by more technical volleyball players.
The second version of the new scoring was tested in the tournament of the men’s teams of the USA, USSR, Japan, Brazil, China, Cuba, Sweden, Canada and South Korea, which disputed the Cup of Japan at the end of last year. Here, to win in each game, you need to score not 15. but only 12 points, and the advantage in the account is enough to one point. In this contest, our team lost to the American (0: 3) and Japanese (2: 3), but in terms of the best difference between the won and lost games in the entire tournament, it was ahead of the hosts and took second place. Here is how FIVB Vice President Honored Master of Sports Yuri Chesnokov spoke about this scoring formula.
– Indeed, in matches of teams of different classes, the game time has been significantly reduced. But when rivals of approximately equal strength competed in principal meetings on the court, their argument dragged on for a long time: several matches lasted two and a half hours. So, in my opinion, a new way of scoring will not lead to the desired result – to reduce the total time of the game. I personally did not like the innovation at the end of the game: it is very difficult to psychologically abandon the usual rule – winning by a margin of two points, and not one.
The third formula of the new account was checked in practice. Its essence is as follows. The result of the match is determined by the results of five games. In each of them, a total of 30 points is played out. Points are awarded for each effective action, regardless of which team owned the pitch. In the fifth game, the advantage of one team over another should be at least 2 points.
That is, this option is close to the one on which our women’s team played in the fifth game of the match with the Peruvians. The coach of the women’s team, Honored Master of Sports Yuri Starunsky, shared with us his assumptions regarding the assessment of this option. In his opinion, each batch of up to 30 points should be completed in an average of 10-12 minutes. So saving time is real. But does the achievement of this goal compensate for the huge expenditure of nervous energy that is inevitable when fixing a point after any volleyball player’s mistake?
At one of the matches of the male teams of CSKA and Iskra, we tried, regardless of the referee leading the usual score, to check how the game would have developed under the new scoring formula. And this is what the result was.
The first batch would have given the Iskra 16:14 advantage at the moment when the true score was only 5: 2 in her favor. But in the future, only CSKA scored points, which brought the party to victory – 15: 5. We continued our calculation, according to which Muscovites would have won the second game with a result of 20:10.
